Dynamometer connected to the 1‑MW diesel engine
The rated power of the 1‑MW diesel engine is at 1500 rpm. The torque was gradually increased in steps by the operator up to 6000 N·m, and the torque value displayed by the dynamometer was compared with the torque measured by the device.
Measured torque diagram of the diesel engine
The measured torque of the diesel engine is shown here as a time‑based plot. As can be seen, at points where the diagram shows peaks, the operator increased the mechanical torque applied by the dynamometer, thereby increasing the load on the engine. The hydraulic dynamometer type used in this test , which was unable to apply a smooth torque below 2000 N·m and caused significant fluctuations in that range—clearly visible in the figure. Finally, the torque values read from the dynamometer (marked with cross symbols) were compared with the torque measured by the rotary portable torque meter, and an excellent agreement between the two results was observed.
